The 2008 season opened with a solid performance for Team FormulaBoats.com in Evansville.
Madison Regatta was a high point as Jeff Bernard captured his first unlimited career victory in U-5 while Mike Allen in U-7 joined him on the podium with a third place finish.
Competition for the Gold Cup in Detroit started well on Saturday, but U-7's accident on Sunday and the relentless high winds turned the weekend into a season low.
The tireless efforts of the FormulaBoats.com crew members in Decatur, Seattle and at the race site in Tri-Cities brought the back-up U-7 from the paint shop to the water in just 9 days. Columbia Cup competition ended with third and fourth place finishes for the team. Seafair in Seattle continued the season-long trend of successes and challenges. The team met the challenges with determination.
A successful weekend in San Diego included the return of the primary U-7 and driver, Mike Allen, solid qualifying performances and a Bill Muncey Cup victory for U-5 and Jeff Bernard. U-7 finished the final heat in third. U-5 concluded the 2008 season in second place in National High Points and U-7 finished fifth. A huge thank you goes out to all the Team FormulaBoats.com crew members and members of other race teams who helped in the repair of the U-7.
